Government
Access installation for state and local government buildings and public sites. Ramps, tactile indicators, stair nosings, handrails and thresholds, supplied and installed to Australian Standards and documented for asset and compliance records.
The obligation
Public buildings carry an access obligation under the Disability Discrimination Act and the Premises Standards, and councils carry it across every site they own: offices, libraries, halls, pavilions, public toilets, car parks and streetscapes. Disability action plans set the program. Access audits set the list. The items on the list are small, numerous and spread across a portfolio, and they wait until a contractor clears them.
What is delivered
- Audit and action plan rectification. Items priced individually, grouped by site, and cleared in a sequence that suits the program and the budget cycle.
- Tactile indicators at stairs, ramps, kerb ramps and crossings, on streetscapes and in buildings.
- Stair nosings and handrails on public stairs, pavilions, grandstands and halls, including rectification of existing work to the current standard.
- Access ramps for entries and level changes. Freestanding modular aluminium systems where the building is heritage-listed or the change is temporary. Timber and composite where the setting calls for it.
- Thresholds and transitions at doorways and between finishes.
Working on public sites
Work is scheduled around opening hours and events, and staged so a building or a path of travel stays open. Site protection, traffic and pedestrian management for the item, and clean handover are part of the job. Every item is photographed and documented for the asset register and the compliance record.
Procurement
Engagements are taken as direct purchase orders, as quotations against an audit or action plan, and through supplier panels where the business is listed. Insurance certificates and site documentation are supplied for each engagement.
Documentation
Product data, the installation detail for each item, and photographs, supplied for the building surveyor, the access consultant and the asset register. Certification and sign-off remain with the surveyor. Installation carries a 24 month workmanship guarantee.
